Mendelssohn’s mighty tribute to Bach, published in 1837, contains some of his most exciting and inventive music – from the flashing fury of the F minor fugue and the grandeur of the B flat prelude to the Midsummer-Night’s-Dream-like perkiness of the B minor prelude and the suave beauty of the D major fugue. David Owen Norris has just recorded these pieces, along with the iconic Songs without Words.
