About this concert:
Following the Navarra Quartet's spellbinding performance at LICMF 2021 of Schubert's Death and the Maiden, they now team up with Tim Hugh for another divine masterpiece by Schubert: his String Quintet. The first half of this concert presents one of many family compositions by Alissa Firsova together with her parents, Elena Firsova and Dmitri Smirnov. Written for the Dante Quartet and Liverpool's European City of Culture in 2008, we are taken on a ride through Dante's nine circles of Hell, the labyrinth of Purgatory and the ten heavens of Paradise. The artist Philip Firsov, Alissa’s brother, provides projections of accompanying illustrations.
