Programme
LICMF’s Artist-in-Residence, Mark Padmore, teams up with Artistic Director, Alissa Firsova for this mini-marathon concert day, in which we hear two sides of Schumann’s unique gift of setting poetry to music. The first concert (3pm) represents Loss with Kerner Lieder, containing some of his most heart-rending and touching writing. It is paired with a solo piano cycle by Schumann’s protégé and great friend, Brahms. In the second concert (7.30pm), the theme of Love is explored with Schumann’s beloved Dichterliebe. Britten’s setting of Thomas Hardy poetry, Winter Words, complements the programme and powerfully culminates with the profound song, “Before Life and After”.
Programme notes are available below, and you are welcome to print them out, or bring a device (on airplane mode) into the hall with you.
